Medgine Mathurin

Poet, Patient Advocate

Medgine Mathurin, a Haitian-born spoken word artist and patient advocate currently based in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Her multilingual upbringing (French, Haitian Creole, English) not only prompted her to begin experimenting with the potential and magic of language, but also naturally compelled her into a deep love of poetry.

Over the years, Medgine became diagnosed with Lupus, CIDP, Polymyositis, and Raynaud’s warrior, all of which fuels her desire to merge storytelling and her power of language into patient advocacy especially for marginalized women living with chronic illness. Medgine currently serves as a Patient Advisor with the Health Quality Council of Alberta.

Her debut trilingual poetry collection “ Waiting in the land of the living” is available now.

“The glory of God can still be present in the bodies of individuals with chronic illnesses, without the need for a miracle.” - Medgine Mathurin
